RAPAPORT... Graff Diamonds unveiled a pear, 105.07-carat, D, flawless
diamond which was cut and polished by the jeweler’s own gemologists from a
rough stone discovered in Lesotho last year.
The rough was recovered in May 2015 at Gem Diamonds’ Letšeng
mine, known for its exceptional stones, and sold into a partnership in June of
that year, the miner said in its 2015 annual report.
The “magnificent” polished has been named the ‘Graff Vendôme’
to mark the opening of Graff’s new store at the Place Vendôme in Paris.
Graff’s senior gemologists analyzed the best cuts the 314-carat
rough – called ‘The Destiny’ – could yield.
“It was at this moment that the presence of an exceptional
stone hidden deep within the rough began to appear,” the company said.
A Graff spokesperson declined to comment on the diamond’s
value and how and where it would be sold.
