RAPAPORT... Lucara Diamond Corp. has recovered a 127-carat rough diamond
from its Karowe mine in Botswana.
The company found the “high-quality” white stone in the deposit’s
south lobe, the same area where it unearthed the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona and
the 813-carat Constellation.
“The recovery of this latest, high-value, top-white, 127-carat
diamond attests to the remarkable nature of the Karowe orebody, which has
consistently delivered large, high-value diamonds throughout its history,”
Lucara CEO Eira Thomas said Thursday.
Lucara has found 129 diamonds weighing more than 100 carats
since it started mining at Karowe in 2012. The company intends to focus on
extracting stones from the south lobe this year, as it aims to continue its big-stone recoveries.
Karowe is currently expected to produce rough through 2026.
However, Lucara is conducting a feasibility study that could expand underground
mining until at least 2036. Image: The 127-carat rough diamond. (Lucara Diamond Corp.)
