Designer Lines

By Amber Michelle
Italian jewelry design house Rebecca launched a collection of sterling silver jewelry to complement its stainless steel and 18-karat-over bronze collections. The sterling silver line has pieces for both men and women. The women’s collection includes earrings, bracelets and necklaces adorned with gemstones. For men, the collection features bracelets and cufflinks accented with onyx and enamel. The fashion-forward line is crafted in Italy.

Hailing from Montreal, Canada, designer Stuart Rae has created the Pea & Pod collection crafted from stainless steel with pearls and diamonds for SteelX. Inspired by Australian seed pods, Rae chose to use stainless steel for the collection because it is recyclable, durable and affordable. Pieces are made using the lost-wax technique for greater detail and texture.

Figures in Motion by designer Jonathan Greenfield is a series of commemorative pieces celebrating motherhood. Three of the pieces — Mother and Child Reunion, Baby in the Sky with Diamond and Remember This — use diamonds as a central accent. The focus of each piece is a “Solar Disk,” with diamond, representing life, power and the brilliance of one’s personal star. The pieces are representative of joy and spontaneity. The collection also includes a Woman with Child ring showcasing a diamond in the center of the woman’s belly to symbolize the unborn child.

Even if the red carpet is not out for the film industry right now, it is out for designer Ricardo Basta, whose bejeweled brooches are currently being exhibited at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Museum in Carlsbad, California. Each of the brooches, which all have naturalistic themes of plants and animals, is one-of-a-kind and intricately detailed. Basta is a noted Hollywood jewelry designer and his creations are worn by Stockard Channing, Gladys Knight and Vanessa Minnillo, as well as by all the contestants in the ad campaign for the reality television series “America’s Next Top Model.”He is a winner of the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) Spectrum Award and the Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America (MJSA) Award. The brooches will be on display through March 2008.

Music is the language of love and in honor of Valentine’s Day and the upcoming Grammys, designer Alex Woo will donate a portion of the proceeds from her Little Notes collection to the MusiCares and the Grammy Foundation. The Little Notes collection is comprised of musical notes in precious metals or sparkling in diamond pavé.
