Bollywood meets Hollywood as Pratima Sethi debuts the Bollywood Collection. This new jewelry from Sethi Couture — formerly Manak Couture — is a tribute to “Slumdog Millionaire.” Inspired by her Indian heritage, Sethi blends white and colored diamonds and precious gemstones into pieces that reflect the glamour of Indian cinema. The collection was unveiled to celebrities and editors at the Red Carpet Ready event in Los Angeles, just before the Oscars.

Dimexon has created a collection of High Jewelry that launches at BaselWorld 2009. The new pieces were created by designer Mathias Hug, who previously held the position of head of high jewelry at Chopard. Highly skilled artisans working in state-of-the-art European workshops craft the pieces.

He’s yellow, he’s square and he’s encrusted in diamonds…that’s SpongeBob SquarePants in his newest rendition. Simmons Jewelry Co. partnered with Nickelodeon/Viacom Consumer Products to create a line of fine jewelry and watches inspired by the little yellow guy.

The uber-popular cartoon is celebrating its tenth anniversary and as part of the festivities, Simmons Jewelry Co. designed a SpongeBob pendant featuring 12 carats of white diamonds and color-enhanced yellow, red and blue diamonds that will be auctioned off to benefit Russell Simmons’ charity, the Diamond Empowerment Fund. The collection, which includes pieces in enamel, gold, silver and diamonds, debuted at the 2009 Film Festival in Park City, Utah. It will be ready to retail in fall 2009.

As a supporting sponsor of G’Day USA Australia Week, Rio Tinto commissioned several one-of-a-kind jewels using diamonds from the Argyle mine. The pieces were exhibited at the Nomad Two Worlds Exhibition at Donna Karan’s Urban Zen Center in Manhattan. The event, hosted by Australian actor Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, was a prelude to Rio Tinto’s 2009 Argyle Champagne Diamond Design competition. Pieces on exhibit included a pen by Curtis Australia showcasing close to 500 champagne diamonds. Designer Aurora Lopez Mejia created a pendant named Infinite Echo that features repetitive circles representing the presence of sound after the source of the sound has stopped.

Crafted from champagne diamonds and sterling silver, the pendant hangs from a leather strap. Another entry came from Kimberley Fine Diamonds — a neckpiece depicting the Kimberley landscape in Australia, showcasing an Argyle pink diamond and champagne and white diamonds. In addition, the Natural Color Diamond Association (NCDIA) donated a butterfly pendant made of Argyle pink diamonds, which was auctioned off to raise money for the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research.
