An antique vibe blended with the brilliance of a modern stone has revived interest in cushion cut diamonds. First cut in the 1800s, the cushion is also known as a candlelight diamond. The gems displayed their best sparkle in the romantic light of candles that were the commonly used source of illumination in the nineteenth century. A square shape — softened by rounded corners — the cushion cut has extra and larger facets. These facets disperse more light, giving cushions the distinction of being the most brilliant of all square shape diamonds.
