Congratulations to designer Jocelyn Prestia of Unhada Jewelry who was given the JA Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year Award during the show at the Javits Center in New York. Prestia, who exhibited in the New Designer Gallery, believes that jewelry should be magical and a flight of fantasy. Her handcrafted 18-karat gold creations are inspired by imaginary worlds, fairies, myths and legends. She studied gemology at the Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA) Bangkok campus where she came to appreciate the stories that gemstones tell.

   Born in the small village of Melitea in Greece, jewelry designer Konstantino draws upon the heritage of his native country for his creations. The art, architecture, history and mythology of Ancient Greece inform his designs and, according to Konstantino, he makes living art from the echoes of the past. It is this blend of modern and ancient that has caught the attention of Hollywood. Marion Cotillard will be wearing Konstantino pieces in the upcoming movie “Macbeth” and Hugh Jackman will wear a ring from the designer in his role as Blackbeard in the soon-to-be-released film “Pan.” Konstantino has a strong celebrity following that includes Carlos Santana, Keith Richards, Salma Hayek and Melissa Etheridge.
   Rémy Rotenier, the creative force behind Rémy Design, has debuted Silver Heels™, a line of pendants, charms and earrings inspired by the Brooklyn Art Museum exhibition “Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe” that is now on display at the Albuquerque Museum in New Mexico. Rotenier designed six shoes named for iconic women and cities —Marie Antoinette, Marilyn Monroe, Lady Gaga, Paris, Milano and St. Tropez. The Silver Heels™ collection is crafted in silver with rhodium, yellow or rose gold plating. Some of the shoes are also adorned with colorful enamel or gemstones.
   A self-taught bench jeweler, designing comes naturally to Jorge Valdes, who designs, makes his own models and finishes each piece of jewelry that he creates for his Maxalonso Collection. Attracted to the forms and shapes found in nature, he names all of his pieces after natural elements, believing that it is his contribution to preserving and protecting nature. His work is distinguished by balance and attention to detail.
